JULIO QUESADA CAÑAVERAL Y PIÉDROLA, DUKE OF SAN PEDRO DE GALATINO AND COUNT OF BENALÚA. A NOBLEMAN WHO FORESAW THAT TOURISM WOULD BE A MAJOR INDUSTRY AND HIS MAIN ATTRACTIONS WOULD BE THE ALHAMBRA AND SIERRA NEVADA.

Revolutionary and innovative in equal parts, just as "the two rivers of Granada flow down from the snow to the wheat", his legacy is palpable from the Sierra Nevada to the Nasrid city.

Outwardly, its crenelated and curvilinear design has an unmistakable likeness to the Avila´s wall: strong, robust, and not excessively tall.

The entire interior of the Alhambra Palace Hotel is pure embellishment: the neo-Moorish style abounds with splashes of mirrors, mosaics, muqarnas and arches. Decoration and light flood the space creating a delicate perception of shapes and essence.

A hotel with its heart transformed into a theater

A small staircase leads to the heart of the building: el Teatrillo, the “Little Theater” of the palace the place where the casino, dearly loved by the duke, once stood and where countless treasured moments are shared today. Culture, history, sentiment, and poetry in an integral city space.

Intimate Performances

Its size makes it ideal for chamber music, solo recitals, and small performances. It lends itself more toward intimacy and closeness than grandiose sumptuousness.

A Sublime Moment to Remember

In June 1922, a flamenco song contest was held in this theater called “El concurso del cante jondo” (the contest of the deep song). This was a milestone event, since it was the first recognition of flamenco as cultured music.

War Breaks Out and the Duke Dies. The Widowed Duchess, Mrs. Fernanda De Salabert Y Arteaga, Donates the Hotel and It Becomes a Field Hospital for Three Years. The Roof of the Building is Painted With Red Crosses. This Saved the Building From Aerial Bombardment. Once the Civil War Was Over, the Hotel Reopened Its Doors in 1942 and Became the Legendary Alhambra Palace Hotel That We Know Today.

At the beginning of the 80s of the last century, the heirs of the duke of San Pedro de Galatino took over the management of the hotel directly, and today it is a reference point for luxury tourism on an international level.
